EH0006 Greater works than Jesus
When last did you do greater works than Jesus?
Do you find it a shocking question? Well, it is based on a very explicit promise of our Lord.
|
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.' [John 14:12, NASB]
|
This verse has been the source of much controversy. It has precipitated uncertainties and doubts in countless hearts. It has been used to support heresies and deceptions without number. But it is written, nevertheless - black on white! There is no doubt whatsoever about its textual authenticity. And the NASB translation is above criticism.

EH0005 Saving faith
The real and the counterfeit
NOT JUST ANY FAITH
The Bible is very clear on the fact that God's forgiveness and justification can only become a reality in a person's life through faith. But this is not true of just any faith. There are many types of faith, and they come to expression in a thousand ways. Every person in the world practices faith - in fact, one cannot imagine life without it. Even the small deposit I make in the bank, is an act of faith, because I believe that I will be able to get it back again! Saving faith is something very specific! And to have absolute clarity about what it really entails, is literally a matter of life and death. It is ever so frighteningly easy to live your entire life under the illusion that you are saved, while in fact you have nothing but the false and futile faith against which we are warned throughout Scripture. It is even possible to have a faith which is very orthodox - but in vain! (James 2:14-26)

EH0004 Original Sin
The key to understanding the Gospel
THE FACT AND ORIGIN OF SIN
- Sin is a universal fact. It is the daily experience of every person who has ever lived, anywhere on earth. There is no exception. This is taught by the Bible and confirmed by our own experience and observation. And because this is true, all people die, "for the wages of sin is death ..." (Rom 6:23). ['Death’ in the Bible, of course means more than just physical death.]
- How then are we to understand this? What is the origin of sin? The key to these questions is to be found in the Biblical doctrine of Original Sin.
|
Original Sin is the effect of Adam's sin on each of his descendants (therefore all people), independent of and prior to any action or failure on their part. It includes both guilt and the corruption.

EH0003 The Christian and obedience No.02
Part 2: Good works prepared in advance
Christian obedience, and in particular good works, is our theme. There is a fascinating verse in the letter to the Ephesians, which spreads much light on this topic.
|
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Eph 2:10, NIV)

EH0002 The Christian and Obedience No.01
Part 1: Two Deadly Enemies
A CONTRADICTION?
'For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.' (Rom 3:28) '(We) ... know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.' (Gal 2:16) 'You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.' (James 2:24)
Are Paul and James at loggerheads in the above verses? Was there dogmatic dispute in the early church? Does the Bible contradict itself? The answer is definitely no. While this would appear to be the case, an understanding of the real issues leaves one with a sense of wonder at the balances and riches of Scriptural revelation.

EH0001 What every Christian must know
A discussion of Romans 8:28-30
FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FAITH
It is significant that whenever the apostle Paul prays for the churches, he invariably prays for Spirit-illuminated knowledge and insight (Eph 1:17-18; Phil 1:9-10; Col 1:9-10). Also, when after the first eleven chapters of fundamental teaching in Romans he proceeds to instruct on the practical implications thereof, he starts off by emphasising that a clear grasp of truth is essential for a God-pleasing life (Rom 12:2). 'True truth' is not a mere side issue, but of vital importance, both for a life of godliness and the survival of the true church. That is why, next to sin, the apostles fought nothing as fiercely as false doctrine.
